“This is something I can use in all aspects of my life. I couldn’t have learned something more important. This knowledge will be a true gift for the children.”
—preschool teacher

“With the ‘Buttons’ approach, I had more energy at the end of the day. I wasn't as exhausted emotionally from the behavior of my students when I left my room.”
—4th grade teacher

“‘When Your Students Push Your Buttons’ is not about fixing or changing kids. This approach is for teachers who don’t like how they feel when their button gets pushed. It’s for anyone who wants to be able to respond to situations as their best selves.”
—8th grade teacher

For Teachers: Connective Teaching

Philosophy

Connective teaching is for teachers and administrators whose goal is to develop real learners that are eager and excited, who care about each other, are able to meet their innate potential and are capable of contributing to the world. It means to make a connection of understanding, or attempting to understand, the root of behavior rather than reacting to the behavior at face value, even when that behavior might be highly inappropriate.

Connective teaching is not "one more thing" to fit on an educator's already filled "plate". It is about changing perspective and thought processes to help make the job of teaching easier, and to create better relationships with their students. Connective teaching helps you to become aware of your buttons and the emotions that accompany them, gives tips on defusing those buttons, and helps you to move from reacting in ways that have not been successful to responding in ways that maintain connection.
